Exploring more possibilities together
To champion exceptional patient care, we recognize the necessity and power of research and innovation. That’s why we’re committed to designing and testing programs that generate learning about what works best under different circumstances. Our proven ability to innovate and support research truly sets us apart.
Stronger programs
With a mission to constantly improve the health of those we serve, developing and nurturing new programs is paramount. This team-wide commitment has led to the creation of exciting new treatments and innovative ways to provide patient care.
CHI Institute for Research and Innovation
The CHI Institute for Research and Innovation (CIRI) coordinates research and clinical trial opportunities across more than 100 CHI hospitals and academic medical center partners. This means more patients have access to clinical trials close to home. The program connects our hospitals, physicians, and research staff with clinical trials from within CHI and across the nation, and brings dedicated private government and industry partners to the table. CIRI is comprised of experts in research management and strategy, medical affairs, finance, regulatory requirements, and research contracting.
The CIRI focus is to address challenges and elevate opportunities to improve health care such as:
- Make clinical trials accessible to more people where they live
- Access to, and participation in, clinical research that offers the latest innovations in medicine and medical devices
- Advance personalized medicine in local communities
- Access to sustainable quality care that promotes healthy communities
- Clinical trial management that keeps costs down and improves efficiencies for patients and providers
CHI Institute for Research and Innovation is one the 35 awardees of the National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program grant (NCORP). CIRI works closely with CHI Cancer Centers across the country to provide CHI communities with novel therapies so patients can be treated locally in their own community. This committed network covers a broad geography and a diverse population in urban, suburban and rural settings.

Conflict of Interest
It is the position of Catholic Health Initiatives that participants in the review and conduct of research in Catholic Health Initiatives facilities must disclose actual and potential conflicts of interest in order to assure the integrity and quality of both the review process and the conduct of the research, to protect human research subjects and to comply with law.
