Community Mass Celebrates 140th Anniversary of Saint Joseph
Founded in 1877, Saint Joseph Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health, is celebrating 140 years in Lexington. The hospital, which was the first in Lexington, has pioneered many other health care “firsts” in the community: the first school of nursing in central Kentucky (1921); the first local blood bank (1939); and the state’s first post-anesthesia recovery room (1951), kidney machine (1956), CAT scan (1974), and more. To commemorate the anniversary, the hospital held an Anniversary Mass, open to the community, on Jan. 24 at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington.
