The year 2006 marked the 10th anniversary of the founding of Catholic Health Initiatives. Maryanna Coyle, SC, the first Chair of the Board of Stewardship Trustees, said, "To connect our future stories with those of the past, we must recall the original stories of the people and events that named a vision and defined its expression."
In the Native American as well as in other traditions, the "word passer" or storyteller fulfills the responsibility of keeping stories alive from one generation to the next. As the "word passers" of the story of Catholic Health Initiatives, Patricia A. Cahill, JD, the first President and Chief Executive Officer; Maryanna Coyle, SC, the first Chair of the Board of Stewardship Trustees, and Esther Anderson, OSF, the second Chair of the Board of Stewardship Trustees sat down over a cup of tea one afternoon and discussed the remarkable journey of CHI: one of faith, of trust and commitment to the original vision.
