CARITAS in Louisville adds mobile psychiatric assessment service

CARITAS Peace Center, Louisville, Ky., recently broadened its array of mental health services by adding a mobile psychiatric assessment service for patients and residents at area health care facilities. The Peace Assessment Team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to serve medical/surgical hospitals, nursing homes, youth shelters and detention centers within a 35-mile radius of Louisville. To request the service, a hospital or other facility can call the local Peace Center Access Line. In response, a certified and trained master’s-level clinician will be immediately dispatched to assess the patient and perform appropriate disposition and referral. "Our goal is to make mental health care easily accessible to organizations – particularly hospitals – in the community," said Michelle Murphy, clinical coordinator for the CARITAS Peace Center. "The response from area hospitals and other facilities has been tremendous."
