Joint Replacement Centers opened by Alegent Health of Omaha

Alegent Health, Omaha, Neb., recently opened Joint Replacement Centers at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha and Southwest Iowa Medical Center (formerly Mercy Hospital) in Council Bluffs. These special hospital units, which are dedicated to the care of total knee and total hip replacement patients, use an approach that is sometimes referred to as a "joint camp." Patients who require hip or knee replacements are grouped and go through a four- or five-day surgical recovery period together with a focus on wellness and socialization, including group meals and activities. The medical team includes orthopedic surgeons, nurses and technicians as well as physical and occupational therapists who specialize in total joint care.
