"As part of Catholic Health Initiatives, our hospital is linked to a faith-based organization that shares our mission and values. As a small, rural facility, Oakes Community Hospital benefits from access to a level of expertise and resources through Catholic Health Initiatives that we could never afford on our own," said Bradley D. Burris, president and chief executive officer of Oakes Community Hospital, Oakes, N.D., since 1998.

"Our hospital serves as a vital safety net for this area, and our employees and physicians take pride in knowing that they are saving lives in this community. Without our commitment to this area, many area health care needs would go unmet," said Burris. A 36-bed hospital, Oakes Community Hospital serves a eight-county area in southeastern North Dakota and northeastern South Dakota, providing such essential services as inpatient care, sub-acute care, surgery, obstetrics, home health and emergency services. It is in the process of launching the first hospital-based parish nursing program in the area.

Prior to joining Oakes, Burris was assistant administrator of Spencer Municipal Hospital, Spencer, Iowa, where he led the implementation of a hospital-wide productivity monitoring system and financed new construction, renovation and equipment. Burris received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa.

Burris said that he considers himself a team player and a "people person" with a process focus. "My style is leadership through consensus whenever possible. If everyone on the team is working toward the same goals, opportunities for success are much greater," noted Burris.

"I believe that Catholic Health Initiatives is the right idea at the right time," he said. "The sum is truly greater that its parts and collectively, we have the opportunity to preserve and strengthen the healing ministry for years to come."
