CHI Loss Prevention and Safety Grants Available for Fiscal Year 2013

First Initiatives Insurance, Ltd. (FIIL), CHI’s captive insurance company, will provide CHI’s market-based organizations with a total of $1.5 million in loss prevention and safety grants during fiscal year 2013. The grant application process will begin with the submission of project screening worksheets starting July 1.

This grant opportunity supports SafetyFirst, CHI’s systemwide journey to ensure safety for patients, medical staff and employees. Safety events continue to be the leading cause of harm to CHI patients and employees. Across CHI, about 14 serious adverse events occur every month. CHI’s goal is zero serious adverse events across the system by 2020.

Grant funds are available to facilities that participate in CHI's Consolidated Insurance Program and Clinical Risk Management Incentive Plan (CRIMP). The funds must be used to implement innovative programs that will significantly reduce patient and employee injuries in health care settings.

  • Individual grant awards will range from $10,000 to $100,000
  • Projects must directly align with CHI’s People and Quality Strategies
  • Projects must be able to be replicated in other facilities
  • Project timelines are not to exceed two years

CHI will host webinars during June to help market-based organizations prepare to apply for the grants.
