Three CHI Hospitals Offer TAVR Procedures

On December 14, the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Heart Team at Nebraska Heart, Lincoln, NE, successfully completed Nebraska’s first TAVR procedures on two high-risk patients who have severe aortic stenosis.  The new treatment is also available at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY, and Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, TN.

Patients who are candidates for TAVR were previously deemed inoperable due to specific medical conditions.  The procedure allows for valve replacement without traditional open-heart aortic valve surgery and while the heart is beating, therefore avoiding cardiopulmonary bypass. It is the only valve replacement option for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are not well enough to undergo traditional open-heart surgery.
