Interim Leader Named for Saint Joseph Health System
Bruce Klockars has been appointed interim chief executive officer of Saint Joseph Health System of Kentucky and senior vice president of divisional operations for CHI, effective May 3. The appointment follows the announcement that Gene Woods, current chief executive officer of Saint Joseph and senior vice president of divisional operations for CHI, has accepted the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer of CHRISTUS Health, Irving, TX, effective June 1.
Klockars, who has served as president of Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown, KY, since 2000 and of Saint Joseph - Mount Sterling, Mount Sterling, KY, since 2009, has more than 30 years of health care leadership experience. He has extensive experience in strategic operations, financial planning and physician recruiting, and has led the construction planning and opening of two master facility plans (replacement hospitals). He is also well known to many of the Saint Joseph staff in Lexington, where he was chief operating officer of Saint Joseph Hospital from 1990-2000. In his new role, Klockars will represent the Kentucky MBO on the CHI Operations Team and Operations Leadership Group.
Saint Joseph and CHI continue discussions with two potential partners, the University of Louisville Hospital/James Graham Brown Cancer Center and Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare. Gary Ermers, chief financial officer, and Dan Varga, MD, chief medical officer, will represent Saint Joseph in the statewide strategy process.
