Mercy-Centerville Celebrates Centennial
Mercy Medical Center, Centerville, IA, held a 100th anniversary celebration on September 10. The event began with a Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville, celebrated by Bishop Martin Amos of the Diocese of Davenport, IA. A re-dedication ceremony was held on the hospital grounds. Attendees were given tours of hospital with special historical displays provided by employees. Originally established as Centerville Hospital in 1902, the hospital struggled financially. The board contacted the Sisters of Mercy in Omaha, NE, and in March 1910 they arrived in Centerville to take ownership and oversight of the hospital. Mercy-Centerville is now one of Iowa's oldest continually operating hospitals. For more information, contact Ann Young.
