Franciscan, Saint Elizabeth Honored at CHA Assembly
Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care, Tacoma, WA, was honored with a prestigious Achievement Citation during the Catholic Health Association's annual assembly in Denver. The hospice, part of Franciscan Health System, was the first full-time, physician-directed hospital palliative care medicine program in Washington State. The hospice's multidisciplinary team works with patients' physicians to meet the physiological, psychological, spiritual and practical needs of patients and their families while focusing on the quality of remaining life. In addition, Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, Lincoln, NE, was recognized as an Achievement Award nominee for its Lincoln E.D. Connections, created in 2005 to help the city's three emergency departments address concerns about overcrowding. The program manages the treatment of patients and helps foster cooperation and collaboration among the community's safety net providers.
