CHI Takes Position on Arizona Senate Bill 1070

The state of Arizona recently passed Senate Bill 1070, which outlines new procedures that will be required by law enforcement officials regarding the verification of U.S. citizenship or work permits for persons who may appear to be undocumented. This new law is scheduled to take effect in Arizona at the end of July.

CHI's President's Council discussed the social implications of the new Arizona law and made the decision that CHI will not host any national meetings or conferences in Arizona until further notice. CHI has asked its market-based organizations to take similar action. If the law changes, CHI will re-evaluate its position on this issue. As part of its advocacy agenda, CHI supports and will work towards comprehensive immigration reform.
