Coverage Achieved for Clinical Trial Participants in Nebraska
The Nebraska Insurance Federation signed an agreement to cover routine patient care costs for persons who participate in clinical trials. This is a significant development for cancer patients in Nebraska who previously were denied coverage for participating in oncology clinical trials. The agreement is the result of the efforts of the National Cancer Institutes' Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP) team members, including Dale Hartwig and Max Norvell of Saint Francis-Grand Island, and partners such as Mike Gloor, Nebraska state senator and former CEO of Saint Francis-Grand Island; the Eppley Cancer Center; the American Cancer Society; and many others. Saint Francis-Grand Island, Good Samaritan-Kearney and Saint Elizabeth-Lincoln all participate in the NCCCP, a program of the National Cancer Institute to test the concept of a national network of community cancer centers to expand cancer research and deliver the most advanced cancer care to more Americans where they live.
