CHI and Trinity Health to Establish New Eastern Oregon-Western Idaho Health System

CHI and Trinity Health, Novi, MI, have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to combine their four eastern Oregon-western Idaho hospitals into a single local system operated by Trinity. The three CHI hospitals are Mercy Medical Center, Nampa, ID; Holy Rosary Medical Center, Ontario, OR; and St. Elizabeth Health Services, Baker City, OR. The fourth hospital – Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Boise, ID – is part of Trinity Health. If the facilities combine, all four hospitals will remain open. Staffing levels are expected to stay the same.

During the past several months, the boards and senior leaders of CHI and the three hospitals have explored the potential benefits of formally aligning the hospitals with another hospital or health system. In creating the new system, CHI and Trinity Health seek to strengthen the overall Catholic health ministry and better serve residents of local communities and the region.

CHI and Trinity Health must complete due diligence and negotiate a definitive agreement. Closing the transaction is subject to board, regulatory and Church approvals. Transfer of the three CHI hospitals to Trinity Health could occur during the next several months.
