Local Donors Help St. Joseph Heart Institute Obtain Scanner

Reading, PA

A gift of nearly $2 million from Ray and Carol Neag enabled St. Joseph Medical Center to install a state-of-the-art scanner in its Heart Institute. St. Joseph is among the first facilities in the U.S. to have a dual source 64-slice computed tomography (CT) system. The scanner produces images with twice the resolution and at twice the speed of the most advanced single-source CT systems. The Neag’s gift also funded a cardio mapping system and three-dimensional work stations that work in conjunction with the scanner. This technology makes cardiac CT exams accessible to more patients; enables emergency physicians to make faster diagnoses; and can eliminate the need for invasive diagnostic procedures.
