New Mexico Advocates Honored in Rome
Allen Sánchez, president and CEO of St. Joseph Community Health, was part of a delegation from New Mexico that was honored on April 15 in Rome, Italy. The delegation’s work to repeal the death penalty in New Mexico was recognized by the lighting of the Coliseum in Rome. The lighting ceremony was hosted by Sant’Egidio, a lay organization of the Catholic Church that promotes dialogue, peace and social justice. Bill Richardson, governor of New Mexico, was also in the delegation, along with other advocates and legislators. The entire delegation was also present during an audience with Pope Benedict XVI.
