Hughes Elected as Board Chair

Kevin Lofton, president and chief executive officer of Catholic Health Initiatives, announced the resignation of Mary Wakefield, PhD, as chair and a member of the Board of Stewardship Trustees. Phyllis Hughes, RSM, DrPH, was elected the new chair of the board.
“It is with sincere regret that I announce the resignation of Mary Wakefield,” said Lofton. “Mary resigned due to the time commitment required as a board member, and particularly as board chair. On behalf of the board and executive team, we extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude for her service to Catholic Health Initiatives.”
Lofton also announced the election of Sister Phyllis, a member of the board since 2004, as the new board chair. Until recently, she was manager of the Health-HIV and AIDS Unit in the Program Quality and Support Department of Catholic Relief Services, Baltimore, Md. Sister Phyllis will be joining Mercy Housing.
Prior to joining Catholic Relief Services, Sister Phyllis served in management positions in hospitals and health systems, including the role of interim chief executive officer of Catholic Healthcare West. She holds a doctorate in public health in international health care from the University of California at Berkeley.
