Saint Joseph Health System to Go Smoke-Free
Saint Joseph Health System of Kentucky announced its commitment to go completely smoke-free by November 20, 2008, the date of the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout. “Our mission is to create healthier communities and a healthy environment for our patients and employees,” said Bruce Klockars, president of Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown. “Our new policy specifies that patients, visitors and employees will be prohibited from using tobacco products anywhere on hospital grounds.” The system will establish several committee of employees to provide input regarding the implementation of tobacco-free campuses. In addition, the system will offer programs such as free smoking cessation courses in collaboration with the Kentucky Cancer Program.
