Mercy Foundation Healthy Kids Program Receives Grants

The Healthy Kids Outreach Program (HKOP) of the Mercy Foundation at Mercy Medical Center, Roseburg, Ore., received two grants. A $3,890 grant from the Area Health Education Center of Southwest Oregon will be used to provide free HealthWise Handbooks to approximately 260 students in grades 7 through 12. The handbooks teach prevention, home treatment for medical conditions, when it’s appropriate to call a health professional and how to make healthy lifestyle choices. HKOP offers a unique medical model designed specifically to reach Douglas County children and families who lack access to regular medical care. The Foundation also received a grant of $20,000 from PacificSource Community Giving Program, which will be used to support all aspects of HKOP. “This funding will make it possible for our program to continue working collaboratively with schools to provide children and families with the best opportunities for improved health and well being,” said Lisa Platt, president of Mercy Foundation.
