Alegent Health Patients Benefit from eFocus

Alegent Health, Omaha, Neb., is the first health care system in its area to implement eFocus, a state-of-the-art technology that allows remote monitoring of critically ill patients. The technology, implemented in the intensive care unit at Bergan Mercy Medical Center, uses telemedicine technology, early warning software and electronic monitoring to connect an off-site monitoring center with a bedside care team. The monitoring team is comprised of board-certified critical care physicians, critical care nurses and health care assistants. Studies credit the use of the technology with reductions in mortality rates and patient length of stay, as well as increases in patient safety.
