Maryanna Coyle, SC

Maryanna Coyle, SC, the first chair of the Catholic Health Initiatives Board of Stewardship Trustees, died of cancer on September 15, 2007. Sister Maryanna was one of the driving forces behind the creation and formation of Catholic Health Initiatives. She served in a leadership position with the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati when Catholic Health Initiatives was conceived and was chair of the Board of Stewardship Trustees from 1996 through 2003. Recently, she served as chair of Catholic Health Initiatives’ Mission and Ministry Advisory Council.

“Many in our Catholic Health Initiatives family were aware that Sister Maryanna was diagnosed with cancer last year,” said Kevin Lofton, president and chief executive officer of Catholic Health Initiatives. “She was blessed to have a period of remission, and during that time she continued to work relentlessly to advance the building of healthier communities, particularly in the area of domestic violence. She died peacefully, in the company of her congregation. Maryanna’s dedication to health care and education touched many of us in a profound way and we are blessed to have had her gift of life with us.” Catholic Health Initiatives will be making a memorial in Sister Maryanna’s name.
