St. John’s First in Area to Offer Hip Replacement Alternative

St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., is the first hospital in its region to offer a new hip resurfacing procedure as an alternative to hip replacement. The resurfacing procedure covers the hip joint’s surface with an all-metal implant, conserving bone and providing greater stability and range of motion than a total hip replacement. The procedure also reduces the post-operative risks of dislocation and inaccurate leg length. Hip resurfacing is intended for patients who have hip pain due to osteoarthritis, dysplasia or other degenerative joint problems.
