Linus Oakes Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Linus Oakes Retirement Center, an affiliate of Mercy Medical Center, Roseburg, Ore., celebrated its 20th anniversary October 11. When Linus Oakes opened in 1986, it had 59 apartments and cottages available; today, there are 123 apartments and cottages housed in 17 buildings around the main lodge. The focus of the staff is to provide residents with comfort and security: in fact, the facility’s namesake is Linus, Charles Schulz’s blanket-toting character from the Peanuts comic strip. An original cartoon drawn by Schulz specifically for Linus Oakes is displayed in the main building.
