St. Joseph in Reading Tops Off New Structure
St. Joseph Medical Center held a “topping off” ceremony May 24, celebrating the placement of the final piece of steel in the structure that will become a new, 212-bed acute care hospital. The 24-foot, 700-pound steel beam bears the signatures of hundreds of St. Joseph’s staff members, physicians, volunteers, board members and benefactors. The beam topped off a 380,000 square-foot structure being built on a 40-acre campus in Bern Township just outside of Reading. Esther Anderson, OSF, PhD, chair of the Board of Stewardship Trustees of Catholic Health Initiatives, spoke at the event along with John Morahan, president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph Regional Health Network, and other leaders. The new hospital is expected to open in late 2006. For more information, contact Mike Jupina of St. Joseph at firstname.lastname@example.org.
