Catholic Health Initiatives Receives Congressional Request

Catholic Health Initiatives is one of ten large health care systems that has received additional inquires about patient billing practices from a subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee. The information was requested by the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation as part of its ongoing review of hospital billing and collection practices, particularly those related to the uninsured.

“As we have for the past two years, Catholic Health Initiatives will provide the information with the help of our market-based organizations,” said Kevin Lofton, president and chief executive officer of Catholic Health Initiatives. “We welcome the subcommittee’s attention to billing and collection practices as an opportunity to affirm our commitment to the most vulnerable persons in the communities we serve.”

Lofton noted that Catholic Health Initiatives has proactively revised some of its billing and collection policies and practices. “We have also had the opportunity to express our concerns about current regulations that contribute to a fragmented and confusing health care payment system,” he said.
