Wakefield Elected to Institute of Medicine
Mary Wakefield, PhD, director of the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota and a member of the Catholic Health Initiatives Board of Stewardship Trustees, has been elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies. The IOM provides advice on health issues, primarily to U.S. government agencies. One of 65 new members, Wakefield is the only IOM member in North Dakota. Originally from Devils Lake, N.D., Wakefield spent many years in Washington, D.C. working in the political and academic areas. She has presented nationally and internationally on public policy and strategies to influence the policy making and political processes.
