Good Samaritan in Merrill to Transfer
to Ministry Health Care

The board of directors of Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, Wis., and Catholic Health Initiatives have signed a letter of intent to transfer sponsorship of the market-based organization to Ministry Health Care, Milwaukee, Wis. "This agreement follows a comprehensive evaluation of changing health care market dynamics, as well as strategic options for the long-term future of Good Samaritan," said Kevin Lofton, president and chief executive officer of Catholic Health Initiatives. "Transferring Good Samaritan to Ministry Health Care will give the hospital greater opportunity to enhance its services and grow locally."

Ministry Health Care and Catholic Health Initiatives must conduct due diligence, secure appropriate approvals and negotiate a definitive agreement. Completion of the transfer is expected to occur in fall 2004. "We will work to achieve a smooth transition for Good Samaritan's employees, medical staff and patients," said David Goode, senior vice president of operations. "Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as this transfer moves forward."
