Robert Erlich, governor of Maryland, spoke at the official dedication of the renovated Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Emergency Department at St. Joseph Medical Center, Towson, Md., on January 16. The department expanded from 8,000 to 25,000 square feet and from 20 to 39 patient rooms. A new specialty emergency department includes four negative air pressure rooms and a decontamination room. Funding for the $8.3 million expansion and renovation came from a major capital campaign that attracted more than 5,000 donors, including a $2 million capital grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.
