New Sponsor to Operate St. Joseph Senior Care Program in Albuquerque
St. Joseph Healthcare System, Albuquerque, N.M., has signed a definitive agreement to transfer its St. Joseph Senior Care program to Total Community Care, L.L.C. Total Community Care, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wis., was formed by two not-for-profit organizations with experience operating similar programs of all-inclusive care for the elderly (also known as PACE programs).
Officials with St. Joseph and Total Community Care said they anticipate a smooth transition, with no changes in existing services to the 212 clients of St. Joseph Senior Care. The program name will change to Total Community Care, L.L.C.
St. Joseph Senior Care, established in 1998 as part of the former St. Joseph Healthcare System, was not included in the sale of the system’s assets in 2002 because of a requirement that it be owned and operated by a not-for-profit organization. St. Joseph Healthcare and Catholic Health Initiatives made the decision to find an alternative sponsor.
"It is our strong desire that this program be continued for the benefit of the Albuquerque community as an alternative to nursing home care," said James Kaskie, senior vice president of operations for Catholic Health Initiatives. "We believe that Total Community Care, which is owned and operated by two of the original PACE programs, will be an excellent new sponsor with the commitment and experience to continue and expand this wonderful program."
