Market-based Organizations in Best Position to Decide Smallpox Response

Catholic Health Initiatives is encouraging market-based organizations to consult with their local health departments in deciding how to respond to President Bush’s request to participate in the National Smallpox Vaccination Program. "The need for, availability of and implementation recommendations for this program vary throughout the United States," explained Harold Ray, MD, chief medical officer for Catholic Health Initiatives. "A decision of this magnitude and with so many variables should be made with consideration for each individual market-based organization’s circumstances and in consultation with the local health departments." Catholic Health Initiatives has developed resource materials for market-based organizations, including frequently asked questions and answers, fact sheets, educational materials and sample materials for potential participants.
