Lisbon Medical Center Transfers
Banner Health Systems, Phoenix, Ariz., has transferred the assets of Lisbon Medical Center, Lisbon, N.D., and its associated health services to Lisbon Area Health Services, a direct affiliate of Catholic Health Initiatives, effective October 1.
Banner announced in September 2001 that it would divest most of the freestanding facilities outside of its core operating regions in Arizona and Colorado. Lisbon Medical Center, with 19 acute care beds, 45 skilled nursing beds and a home health care agency, was part of the divestiture plan.
Ron Bunnell, Banner senior vice president and chief financial officer, said Banner wanted to find an organization with a track record of quality health care operations willing to invest in the Lisbon facility and services. "Catholic Health Initiatives has clearly demonstrated these capabilities," he said. "We are pleased that health care services in the community will be preserved."
Larry Schulz, senior vice president of operations for Catholic Health Initiatives, said "Banner employees at Lisbon Medical Center are serving the community well. We are pleased to be able to extend our ministry in North Dakota and look forward to working together. Catholic Health Initiatives will work to assure a smooth transition for employees, patients, residents and the community."
