Saint Joseph in Lexington first in Kentucky to implement new intravascular imaging technology

Saint Joseph Heart Institute, Lexington, Ky., is the first hospital in the state to introduce the next generation of intravascular ultrasound imaging in heart catheterization procedures. The Galaxy System offers cross-sectional and longitudinal ultrasound images of the inside of an artery or heart. It also allows the integration of these high-resolution images with X-ray images. "Prior to this system, we were provided with only a bull’s-eye view inside a vessel," said Bill Harris, MD, a cardiologist with the Heart Institute. "Now, we can also see a longitudinal view, which can show the exact length of a lesion and offer further assistance in choosing specific modalities of treatment." The Galaxy System is made by Boston Scientific. For more information, contact Jeff Murphy, director of public relations for Saint Joseph HealthCare, at 859/313-2017.
