Sister Bridget McNamara of St. Joseph in Reading featured in local paper

Bridget McNamara, OSF, vice president of mission and ministry at St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pa., was the subject of a recent feature article in the local daily newspaper. The article discussed her work in spiritual and pastoral care at St. Joseph, noting that she is known for helping domestic violence victims, for providing comfort to patients at the end of life and for occasionally handing out ice cream at 3 am to third-shift staff members. In the article, Sister Bridget said that she tries to surround those she serves with caim, a Gaelic word that means "circle of life and safety." "My mother would gather us children and tell us she was surrounding us with the caim," Sister Bridget said. "Now I try to do that with everyone in my own quiet way."
