Saint Joseph Jessamine, part of KentuckyOne Health, received a Lung Cancer Screening Center designation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). Lung cancer is the nation’s leading cancer killer, taking the lives of more people each year than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined.
The ACR Lung Cancer Screening Center designation, a voluntary program, recognizes facilities that have committed to practice safe and effective diagnostic care for individuals at the highest risk for lung cancer. To receive this distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR for computed tomography in the chest module and undergo a rigorous assessment of their lung cancer screening protocols and infrastructures.
“Evidence shows that people have a lower chance of dying from cancer when it’s detected early through screening,” said Greg Giles, market director, ambulatory operations and development, KentuckyOne Health. “This screening option is a proven strategy for fighting lung cancer, and is a tool that will help us continue to save lives.”
