CHI Mercy Health, Roseburg, OR, opened a new wound care center, CHI Mercy Health’s Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Therapy, inside Mercy Medical Center.
With state-of-the-art equipment and specialized wound care, the new wound center will help with a growing health care crisis. Chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the U.S., and the number is expected to increase by 2% annually over the next decade. The rising incidence of chronic wounds can be correlated to obesity, vascular disease, an aging population and radiation treatment side effects, which are often underlying causes.
Advanced treatments available at the center include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.
